Caroline and Diana drive from city A to city B at respective rates of 60 mph and 45 mph. They both started driving from city A at 9:30 a.m. If Caroline reached Boston at 1:45 p.m., what time did Diana reach city B?

Explanation:

Caroline travels at 4/3 the speed Diana does. In that same way, we can use the reciprocal and see that Diana's speed is 3/4 the speed of Caroline's speed. This means that Diana would've been done with 3/4 of her route when Caroline reached at 1:45 PM. Now we can find the time Caroline took: 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 1:45. This means it took Caroline 4h 15min to reach City B. Now we have to do 4*60+15= 255 minutes *4/3. 255*4/3 = 340 minutes. It took Diana 340 minutes. Now we have to count this time from 9:30 AM. 7 hours is 350 minutes, so it took Diana 7 hours - 10 minutes = 6h 50 minutes. 9:30+6h 50min = 4:20 PM
