Meanwhile, France was looking for a way to get revenge and recover its lost territories and saw in the USA a way to make that happen.

This is because the USA (until then the 13 American colonies) was organizing itself to generate a conflict that would free them from British colonialism. However, they had a small and inefficient army to fight against a potential that was England. So France decided to help, releasing troops and ammunition, to weaken England and regain its territories.
