Answer: x=18/5 or x=3 3/5 or x=3.6

put the 2/5 to the other side of the equation by cancelling it out
new—> x=4-2/5

then put a 1 under the 4 to make it a fraction
new—> x=4/1 - 2/5

next multiply 4/1 by five so the denominator us equal to 2/5
new—> x=20/5 - 2/5

now you subtract
answer is x= 18/5

Answer:

x + 2/5 = 4

subtract 2/5 from both sides

That is

x + 2/5 - 2/5 = 4 - 2/5

x = 4 - 2/5

x = 18/5 or 3 3/5 as a mixed number

Hope this helps
