Mathematically, the probability that an event occur is 1 minus the probability that the event doe not occur.

Thus, what we are saying here is that the sum of the probabilities that Paul wins the raffle draw and he doesn’t win the raffle draw is 1

This can be mathematically expressed as;

probability that he doesn’t win = 1 - probability that he wins

Thus we have;

1- n/(n+ 6)

= [(n+ 6) -(n)]/(n+6) = 6/n+ 6
