Can someone pls help I need a brief description of Sputnik and the space race, and why you think the US or USSR is on the correct side of the conflict.

Sputnik was the first geo-synchronous, stable orbit in space by a satellite. The communist government of the United Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR; in Cyrillic, CCCP) occurred the late 1950’s. The first manned flight by a Soviet cosmonaut was Yuri Gagarin. Hopefully this helps!
