The slope is calculated like this:

Slope = vertical difference divided by horizontal difference.

So, from the line at the top marked ( 2,8 ) to the point that is vertically on line with both marked points = 8

And the horizontal difference is the number of gaps from the point marked (-6,-8) till the point we said was in line with both points. This is 4.

SO, 8/4 = 2

A(2,8)------>(X1,y1)

B(-6,-8)------>(x2,y2)

Now,


slope = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: = ( - 8 - 8)/( - 6 - 2) \\ \: \: \: = ( - 16)/( - 8) \\ \: \: \: \: = 2
