Over time, the people's choices domesticated the plants. The most familiar hearths are those where prehistoric people domesticated the foods we commonly eat today: Mexico (corn), Peru (potatoes), the Middle East (wheat and barley), Africa (soybeans and millet), and east Asia (rice).
