She wants to play on a youth soccer team, but a youngster has to be a resident of the city to play in the city league, and there aren't any teams in the surrounding rural area. Her mother decides to lie about the girl’s address; the mother tells the soccer league that the girl lives inside the city at her uncle's house. The girl is delighted to play on a city soccer team, even though the team wins only three games all season

I understand that as a mother, your child's happiness is paramount. However, it should not come at a cost of teaching them the right lessons in life. The 12 year old girl watched her mother lie for her and this will probably become an issue in future if she starts to believe that sometimes you have to lie to get what you want. This is how seeds of corruption and fraud are sown. If that girl were to grow up with such lessons and get into political office someday, it would be quite troublesome.

Another reason this was wrong is that we are unsure if there were limited spots in the team. By lying to get her daughter in, the mother might have unwittingly denied a place to another child who is actually a resident of the city.

The mother should have thought of a better way to get her daughter in because this lie that she told will now have domino effects. Even if the alternative to getting her daughter in was difficult, it would have taught her daughter that in life you may have to struggle to get what you want but you should not compromise your values to do so.
