Explanation:

Volume = l*w*h

We need to divide the shapes up.

First Shape: 3 length * 1 width * 2 height

Second Shape: 2 length * 1 width * 2 height

6+4=10

Surface Area: 2(lw+wh+hl)

Lets divide the shape into two parts again and plug in the number into the formula.

2(3+2+6) = 2(11) = 22

However, for this, two units are inside to shape because we split it up. We can remove these 2 units.

22-2=20

Now we move to the next shape.

(Keep in mind, you can always just count surface area.)

2(2+2+4) = 2(8) = 16

However, again, two units are inside the shape because this is not just a simple figure.

16-2=14

14+20=34
