Solution,

a. Given,

X=4

y=3

Now,


2x + y \\ = 2 * 4 + 3 \\ = 8 + 3 \\ = 11

b. Given,

a=-2

b=5

Now,


{a}^(2) + b \\ = {( - 2)}^(2) + 5 \\ = 4 + 5 \\ = 9
