Answer:

3 nickels, and 13 quarters.

Explanation:

0.05n+0.25q=3.40

n+q=16

q=16-n

0.05n+0.25(16-n)=3.40

0.05n+4-0.25n=3.40

-0.2n=-0.6

n=3

3+q=16

q=13
