Part A: yes . Part B: minus 24

Explanation:

Part A

8x + 8 = 56

8x = 56-8

8x = 48

x = 48 / 8

x = 6 , YES!

Part B

Suppose x = 9 and find y:

8(9) + 8 + y = 56

80 + y = 56

y = 56 - 80

y = -24

So we have to add -24 to the equation. The new equation: 8x + 8 - 24 = 56
