Syed Ahmed towards latter part of his life was bestowed with the title of 'Khan Bahadur'.

Due to his strong affiliation and loyalty to the British Crown he, in 1887 was nominated as a member of the Civil Service Commission and in 1888, was also knighted by the British government.

One of his actions which stands as a legacy is that he founded the United Patriotic Association at Aligarh. The purpose of the association was to enhance political co-operation between the British and Muslim in the British government. This among many others is of his actions which helped to reduce the gap between the Muslim community and the British Government.
