you cut it into shapes so one's a square, one's a rectangle, and one's a triangle.

area for square is b times h or b^2

area for rectangle is b times h

area for triangle is 1/2b times h

once u get this u add them all

a for s= 4 times 4 which is 16

a for r = 4 times 2 which is 8

a for t = 1/2 4 times 2 which is 4

4 plus 8 plus 16 gives u the area for the shape
