Explanation:

The distance between the y-coordinates is 5+9 or 14. 14÷2=7, so the middle of those two points will have a y-coordinate of (-9+7), or -2.

To find the x-coordinate, it is the same process. 16+6=22. You are basically finding the average of the two numbers in this process, which is why you are dividing by 2. 22÷2=11.

Pick an x-coordinate to add this value on to. If you pick the first point it is important to remember that you should subtract since the other point has a smaller x-value, but you would add for the second ordered pair, much for the same reason. With this in mind the x-coordinate of the midpoint would be 16-11=5.

This means that the final answer would be (5,-2)
