What is the slope of the line that passes through the points (-4,4) and (-6,6)

The answer is 2/-2

Start by making a table for our ordered pairs.

I have done this below.

Put the x-values in the left column and y-values in right column.

---X---|---Y---

-4 | 4

-6 | 6

|

Now, remember that the slope is equal to rate of change

or the change in y over the change in x.

To find the change in y, we can see that the y-values go

from 4 to 6 so the change in y is 2.

The x-values go from -4 to -6 so the change in x is -2.

So the change in y over the change in x is 2/-2.

This reduces to -1.

So the slope of the line is -1.
