x=(-b+/-√(b^2-4ac) )/(2a)

For us, a = 1, b = -7, and c = 12. Filling in the formula then looks like this:


x=(7+/-√((-7)^2-4(1)(12)) )/(2(1)) which simplifies to


x=(7+/-√(49-48) )/(2) and


x=(7+/-√(1) )/(2) and


x=(7+1)/(2)=(8)/(2)=4 or


x=(7-1)/(2)=(6)/(2)=3

Th 22 solutions are x = 3 and x = 4.
