Explanation:

The top and bottom have a distance of

-2 to 2 = 4 units

The sides need the length found by the pythagorean theorem

d = sqrt( a^2 + b^2) where a is the height and b is the width

a = (2-1) =1 and b = 4- -1 = 4+1 = 5

d = sqrt(1^2 + 5^2) = sqrt( 1+25) = sqrt(26)

We want the perimeter

P = 4+ sqrt(26) + 4 + sqrt(26)

Combine like terms

= 8 + 2 sqrt(26)
