What is the area of a parallelogram if the coordinates of its vertices are (0, -2), (3, 2), (8, 2), and (5, -2)?

Explanation:

We have that the area of a parallelogram = Base length, l × Height, h

The length of the base, l = √((5 - 0)² + (-2 - (-2))²) = 5

Given that the base of the parallelogram is parallel with to the x-axis, we have that the height is the difference between the a higher and a lower y-coordinate as follows;

h = y₃ - y₁ = 2 - (-2) = 2 + 2 = 4

Therefore, the area of the parallelogram, A = l × h = 4 × 5 = 20 unit².
