Why did the colonies went to war?

Bare with me because this might not be the best answer but : The British wanted to put taxes on alot of things when it came to the imported goods from the colonies. They taxed everything like tea tobbaco and etc. this lead to things such as the war so that the colonies could become fully independent.

The colonists fought the British because they wanted to be free from Britain. They also fought the British because of the unfair taxes and because they didn't have self-government.
