This is a very similar type of violence to Race based violence. It refers specifically to violence enacted on a person for their gender identity or biologically assigned sex. Also can take the form of sexism and assault, usually occurs to women and younger girls as a form of asserting dominance by a man. Modernly, we see these gender based assaults as stemming from older beliefs of a woman place being under or inferior to men. But, this can also occur in men as well.
