Mohammad Nassar is a 15-year-old male complaining of increased difficulty breathing over the last two days. From his chart, you see that Mohammad has a history of asthma and is on a maintenance dose of albuterol 4 mg extended-release tablets twice a day. Dr. Williams has ordered a peak expiratory flow test and has referred Mohammad for allergy testing. Why did the doctor refer Mohammad for allergy testing? In addition to the prescribed medication, what can Mohammad do to help reduce his symptoms?

The doctor referred Mohammad for allergy testing because allergies can trigger asthma symptoms. Identifying and avoiding allergens can help reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks.

In addition to taking his prescribed medication, Mohammad can also take steps to reduce his symptoms. This may include avoiding triggers such as smoke, dust, and pollen, staying indoors during peak allergy season, and using a humidifier to keep the air moist. It is also important for Mohammad to continue monitoring his symptoms and to seek medical attention if they worsen or do not improve with treatment.

I think the doctor noticed how he was breathing in the last two days as it has gotten worse and tested him out. He can exercise, drink lots of water, eat healthier, have plenty of rest and don’t go near things that he is allergic to.
