While there are multiple methods to deducing slope, the one I used for this equation is y/x. Starting at the y-intercept, draw a line up as many increments until you align horizontally with another point. Then, draw a line horizontally (towards the line) until you meet that point. Continue this pattern up the line. Each movement will fall in a patterned number, such as 3 up and 1 left or right. 'Up' becomes 'Y' as you are moving on the y-axis, and 'horizontally' or 'left/right' becomes 'X' as you are moving on the x-axis. Pull these numbers into the fraction y/x. If the fraction equals a whole number, translate the fraction into that number. If not, keep it in fraction form (such as 1/3 or 1/4). In this instance, it would become 3/1 and then 3. This number is now your slope.
