A prom dress originally priced at $450 is on

sale for off the original price. In addition, Alia has a coupon for 10% off the discounted
price. If there is a 6% sales tax on the final price of the dress, what would Alia's total
cost be?

Answer:

378

Explanation:

Original price is $450

⇒$450→100%

and there is a sale of 6%

⇒X→94%

⇒the dress cost after 6% sale= X=(450×94)÷100=$423

But, Alia has 10% discount also

⇒$423→94%

Y→84%

⇒The final dress cost =Y=(423×84)÷94=$378

if you mean 6% is added to the dress as a tax:

Original price is $450

⇒$450→100%

⇒X→106%

⇒the dress cost after 6% tax= X=(450×106)÷100=$477

But, Alia has 10% discount also

⇒$477→100%

Y→90%

⇒The final dress cost =Y=(423×90)÷100=$429.3
