Explanation:

This is a confusing problem to look at, so use PEMDAS(parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction).

5 * (-4) + (1 - (-3)^2)^2 simplify inside the parenthesis

5 * (-4) + (1 - 9)^2

5 * (-4) + (-8)^2 simplify exponents

5 * (-4) + 64 multiply

-20 + 64 finally, addition
