Answer:

5.1666666666667

To solve

We know that...

5(1)/(6) = 5 + (1)/(6)

So that means

(1)/(6) = 1 ÷ 6

And with that info, 5 1/6 becomes

5 + ((1)/(6))

Solve by improper fractions

We know from the last problem that...

5(1)/(6) = 5 + (1)/(6)

Converting 5 as a whole number to a fraction, it becomes

5 = (5)/(1)

Now it becomes...

(5)/(1) + (1)/(6)

Since the fractions will not change, first find the whole, then multiply your improper fraction by the whole, and add the part

(6)/(6)\\\\ = ((5)/(1) * (6)/(6) ) + (1)/(6)

Converting to improper fraction

(30)/(6)\\\\= (30)/(6) + (1)/(6)(part) = (31)/(6) never add the denominators when they are equal.

We know that...

(31)/(6) = 31 ÷ 6

Whose quotient is equal to

5.166
