5v-u=-2 and -v+9u=18, then the simultaneous solution of the given equation is? Please show how you work out the problem (:

v=0, u=2

Explanation:

Label the 2 equations.

5v -u= -2 -----(1)

-v +9u= 18 -----(2)

From (1):

5v -u +2= 0 (+2 on both sides)

5v +2= u (+u on both sides)

u= 5v +2 -----(3)

Subst. (3) into (2):

-v +9(5v +2)= 18

-v +9(5v) +9(2)= 18 (expand)

-v +45v +18= 18

45v -v= 18 -18

44v= 0

v= 0 (÷44 throughout)

Susbt. v=0 into (3):

u= 5(0) +2

u= 2
