Answer:

y = x/2 -14

Explanation:

Since the lines are parallel, their slopes are equal

For the first line, we have

y = 0.5x -8

so comparing this with the standard form y = mx + c

Our m is the slope which is 0.5 here

kindly recall that 1/2 is same as 0.5

so the slope of the line we want to form also is 0.5

Now, we use the point slope form to find the equation of this new line

Mathematically that would be;

y-y1 = m(x-x1)

So;

y-(-17) = 0.5(x-(-6)

y + 17 = 0.5(x + 6)

y + 17 = 0.5x + 3

y = 0.5x + 3-17

y = 0.5x -14

or y = x/2 -14
