Let us find x and y.

x – y = 4 _____(1)

x/2 + y/2= 18___(2)

Multiply (2) by 2 and add to (1)

x - y = 4

+(x + y = 36)

2x = 40

=> x = 40 / 2 = 20

From (1):

20 - y = 4

=> y = 20 - 4 = 16

The two numbers are 20 and 16.
