x = (-24±√-288)/4

Re writing in the standard format a,+bi

x =( -24±√144×√2×√-1)/4

In complex notation, i = √-1

x = (-24±√144×√2×i)/4

x = ( -24±12×√2i)/4

x = -24/4±12√2i/4

x = -6±3√2i

Comparing the resulting complex number with a+bi

a = -6 and b = 3√2
