Ok so I’m in high school and I forgot everything I learned in 6-7th grade so what is 14/2 + 12/6 I got 54/6 but I don’t know what to do to get it into simplest form btw I’m very dumb so please explain it like you would to a 4yr old

The fractions have unlike denominators. First, find the Least Common Denominator and rewrite the fractions with the common denominator. Multiply both the numerator and denominator of each fraction by the number that makes its denominator equal the LCD. This is basically multiplying each fraction by 1. (14/2 x 3/3)+(12/6 x 1/1). Complete the multiplication and the equation becomes 42/6+12/6. The two fractions now have like denominators so you can add the numerators. 42+12/6=54/6. Divide 54 by 6 and get 9. hope this helps :)
