The length of a rectangle is two more than three times its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 60 m, find its length and width.

Answer:

The length and width of the rectangle are 23 m and 7 m respectively.

Explanation:

P = 2L + 2W

P (perimeter of the rectangle) = 60 m

L (length of the rectangle) = 2 + 3W. W is the width of the rectangle

Therefore, L = 2 + 3W

P = 2L + 2W

60 = 2(2 + 3W) + 2W

60 = 4 + 6W + 2W

60 - 4 = 8W

56 = 8W

W = 56/8 = 7 m

L = 2 + 3W = 2 + 3(7) = 2 + 21 = 23 m

L = 23 m

W = 7 m
