Why would the connotative meaning of a word be different from person to person?

Connotative meaning is the emotion expressed from hearing a certain word, so based on other people’s experiences, beliefs, etc. a word may carry a different connotation to then in opposition to others.

Ex- ‘dog’ may carry the positive connotation for “adorable” to some people, while for others it carries the negative connotation of “vicious” because the person was bit by a dog in the past
