in the given figure, we can observe that both triangles are similar since they have two equal angles of 100° and 60° .[By AA similarity criteria]

Also, the corresponding sides of similar triangles are proportional.

As side with measure 8 in bigger triangle corresponds side with measure 4 on the smaller triangle. [shortest side]

Similarly, side with measure 14 in bigger triangle corresponds side with measure y on the smaller triangle. [longest side]

Using proportionality, we have


(4)/(8)=(y)/(14)

Hence, the proportion can be used to find the value of y is
(4)/(8)=(y)/(14).

  • According to AA similarity criterion-, if any two angles of one triangle are equal to any two angles of the other, then the two triangles will be similar.
