Answer:

In concrete construction, reinforcing steel rods, bars, etc absorbs tensile, shear, and occasionally compressive stresses. Because plain concrete cannot readily endure the strain and bending stresses induced by wind, earthquakes, vibrations, and other pressures, it is unsuitable for most structural purposes. It is also responsible for holding the concrete together in the right position.
