So that they could literally exploit India's abundant mineral, agricultural, and labor resources, although mine may not be up to point, it is the condensation of what generally the British did to India. And even though India does have railways, and other modern forms for a society in the victorian to the end of colonization, all of those were made for a specific purpose in mind, to strengthen British control and to make it easier to further exploit india
