Explanation:

Consider the left point as (x₁, y₁) and the right point as (x₂, y₂)

then (x₁, y₁) = (-6, -1) & (x₂, y₂) = (5, 1)

x₂ - x₁ = 5 - (-6) = 11

y₂ - y₁ = 1 - (-1) = 2

ratio of a:b = a/(a+b)

1 : 2 = 1/(1 + 2) = 1/3

x-coordinate: x₁ + ratio(x₂ - x₁) = -6 + (1/3) (11) = -7/3
