Given that;

F = temperature in Fahrenheit

C = temperature in Celsius

And;

F=(9C+160)/5 .........1

For temperature to be the same on both scale;

Temperature in Fahrenheit mist be equal to the temperature in Celsius

F = C

Substituting F = C into the equation 1;

C = (9C +160)/5

Multiply both sides by 5

5C = (9C+160)

Collecting the like terms.

5C -9C = 160

-4C = 160

C = -160/4

C = -40

F = C = -40

At -40, the value on both scales are the same.

That means;

-40 °C = -40 ° F
