a^2+2ab+b^2

so in order to get that we can see that 4n^2+8n seems to be missing a piece.

a is the square root of 4n^2 which is 2n.

8n/2n=4

4/2=2

b=2

so now add 2 to both sides of the equation so now it's

4n^2+8n+4=-13

rewrite as (2n+2)^2=-13

Now you see a negative number as the result of a exponent.
