Imperialism can lead to a stronger economy for the United States, simply because of the amount of resources that can be extracted.

When the United States own the certain territories/countries, they are able to obtain natural resources at a much reduced cost, as they would only have to obtain workers for the extraction, and pay for simply the shipping and attached fee, rather than with international rates. This means that, technically speaking, the United States would be able to acquire more raw material below market price and therefore can grow more exponentially quicker. This is one of the underlying reasons for the U.S. technological & economical boom during the Industrial Revolution.
