Answer: 302 cm2

Explanation:

Hi, to answer this question we have to calculate the surface area of the cubes and the rectangular prism, and the then add them (minus the overlaps)

Surface area of a cube (SAC)= 6 x side length ^2

Since one side of each cube is covered by each other, we simply have to multiply the area of one side by 5 instead of 6.

SAC = 5 x (2)^2 = 20 cm2

Since both cubes are equal, we simply multiply it by 2:

20 x 2 = 40 cm2 (surface area of the 2 green cubes)

Surface Area of a rectangular prism (SAP) = 2wl + 2lh + 2hw

Where:

w = width (5); l = length (11); h = height (5)

SAP = 2 (5x 11) + 2 (11 x5) + 2 (5x5) = 110+110+50=270 cm2

Finally, adding both surface areas, and subtracting the base area of the bottom cube covered by the prism multiplied by 2 ( overlap )

270+40-2(4) = 302 cm2
