When we have absolute value equations, we get two solutions, one positive and one negative

2x - 5 =7 2x -5= -7

Add 5 to each side

2x-5+5 = 7+5 2x -5+5 = -7+5

2x =12 2x = -2

Divide each side by 2

2x/2 =12/2 2x/2 = -2/2

x = 6 x = -1
