The radius is just have of the diamater of the circle, which--in this case--is 18. So the radius of this circle would be 9 and the problem would be: A = pi x 9 to the second power. Although since your teacher said that pi was not in fact 3.14159 etc, and instead 3.142, you have to multiply 3.142 times the second power of 9, and you get 254.502. Hope this helped!
