5. A car uses 10 litres of petrol in 75 km. How far will it go on 8 litres?​

Let x represent the required distance.

Since the quantity of petrol is directly proportional to the distance:

x : 75 = 8 : 10

i.e.
(x)/(75) =
(8)/(10)

x =
(75 * 8)/(10)

Solve For X

75*8=600, 600/10=60

THEREFORE

75/10=60/8

You could ALSO Divide 75 by 10, get 7.5, and multiply THAT by 8, as the car is assumed to have constant gas usage
