Answer: a = 17/6

Explanation:

I will use two laws of indices to solve this question

1. x^a / x^b = x^(a-b)

2. x^a = x^b, => a = b

Using both laws

x³/x^1/6 = x^a

x^(3-1/6) = x^a

3 - 1/6 = a

a = 3 - 1/6

a = (18 - 1)/6 using LCM

a = 17/6
