They probably felt like they had no rights compared to Europeans. They were controlled and had no rights to speak and voice their opinions. Back then, civil rights did not exist, so voicing your opinion could be even dangerous. They could be killed. So they probably felt devastated and very horrified. Some Africans probably didn’t know what was even happening on their country and people. So many of them were scared.
