Explanation:

2x – y = 1

2x +2y = 10 Subtract to eliminate the 2x:

2x - 2x - y - 2y = 1 - 10

-3y = -9

y = 3.

Plug this into the first equation:

2x - 3 = 1

2x = 4

x = 2.

5x – y =15

x + y = -3 Adding to eliminate y:

5x + x - y + y = 15 + -3

6x = 12

x = 2

Plug this into the first equation:

5(2) - y = 15

-y = 15 - 10 = 5

y = -5.
