In "Everyday Use" author shows her recurrent theme at work. She shows the conflicts, struggles and representation of harmony in African-American culture. The story clearly shows that for author culture is something which one can use daily not to wrap it up and put on the shelf. The way she shows the characters sequence in the story clearly indicates the importance of heritage and culture. For example how Mama sat in the yard with Maggie, for Mama yard is not only the property but home to her, similarly how Dee is not appreciating her culture by changing her name. She just wanted to have quilts to show off her culture but deep down she did not embrace it. on the other hand Maggie is close to her family, culture and cherish it on daily basis.
