I believe the writer/speaker in the poem is herself. This is because the poem sounds really deep and personal. I believe the situation she’s writing about is winning a race. According to the text, “this time would be differnt she would feel the rush hear the cheer be at the finish first.” I can infer that her past races were bad (she didn’t win). According to the text, “she would finally feel the heavy weight lifted from her heart and draped around her neck instead”. This quote shows how much pressure was on the reader and how anxious she was about winning the race.
