Multiply each side by 6 to get rid of the fractions

6(2/3x +1) = 6(1/6x - 7)

4x +6 = x - 42

Subtract x from each side

4x-x +6 = x-x-42

3x +6-6 = -42-6

3x = -48

Divide each side by 3

3x/3 = -48/3
